Summer Fashion Hacks to Keep Cool

Updated: Sep 6, 2021

With the approaching NYC summer, we never know if we'll burn or be able to gracefully enjoy 75 to 80 degree weather without melting to a pool of sweat. As a personal shopper, my clients always ask me to source them great summer clothing and ideas that will keep them fashionable and chic while keeping the summer heat at bay. I decided to share some of these ideas with you!

1. 100% Cotton

Invest in 100% cotton clothing, it is more breathable than synthetic fabrics such as rayon or polyester. An added perk to being more breathable is sweat will collect and dry faster than synthetic fabrics.

2. No Linings

Avoid wearing clothing with additional fabrics, especially synthetic fabrics. Wear unlined jackets, skirts and pants to keep your skin less confined and leaving one less layer between your skin and the air.

3. Light Colors

As the summer approaches now is a great time to try out those lighter pastel colors in your closet. Dark colors absorb light which makes you feel hot while lighter colors reflect light and keeps you cool. And for all you New Yorkers reading this, yes, it's time to start wearing less black!

4. Looser Clothing

Opt for losser clothing as the temperatue rises. The less fabric you have touching your body the better you will feel. Break out those shirt dresses and loose trousers and keep the gym tank tops in the gym.

5. Go for Embroidery instead of embellishments

Embellishments such as beads, metal, etc can be heavy and weigh down fabric, opt for threaded embroidery or seams instead to bring structure to light weather fabrics for a flowy look.
